Acanthosis nigricans (AN)is associated with insulin resistance. It is considered to be a sign of high insulin levels.

An insulin problem is thought to be the cause of PCOS, so you can see how the two are linked.

It is possible to have AN without having PCOS if a person has insulin problems.
