Overweight for 20 yrs...From: Anna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 8 Apr 2002 12:44:01 -0500 (CDT)
Ok, I feel really ignorant here. What is this PCOS? I am 45yo at the time of this writing. I had a complete hysterectomy 5 yrs ago. What led up to it was that I had cysts entangled so badly around my left ovary, that blood circulation was almost entirely cut off. For 4-6 months prior to emr surgery, I had several episodes of being rushed to hospital with extreme pain/throwing up. During all this time my internist was misdiagnosing me, telling me it was my colon and to lose weight. Finally after 8 days of hosp stay following an emr rm visit, lo and behold, the cysts were discovered. My "kind" internist sent an OB-GYN in my rm to offer his services for hysterectomy. I politely told him "No thanks, I have my own GYN." My GYN, who WAS trustworthy, checked out the tests and assured me the surgery was necessary. She performed surgery and now, 5 yrs later, I am even more overweight than I've ever been. I am 100lbs overwt, all in the stomach area. How can I find out if my problem is this PCOS? What kind of doc would I see? We moved out of state since my surgery so that doc is not an option anymore. I live in LA. I have never had a doc tell me why I am so overweight in my stomach. I have just assumed it was in the genes...my grandmother had the same body shape as I do. This is too weird. Can someone please help explain. I'm so weary from reading at websites, different symptoms of illnesses and diseases. So many of them overlap. I don't want to think I have symptoms of another illness but if this is really the problem I've been having, what can I do to solve it?
