Lynnette, I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I went on Avandia for my PCOS but my doctor gave me Glucophage Extended Release to take with it. He said that the combo helps to stop Avandia from causing 8-10 lbs. of gain. I had heard that it was water weight, he said it was fat. However, I kept on a lowcarb diet during the treatment and did very mild exercise, and I lost 6 lbs (and ovulated and got pregnant too, but that's another story!). Talk to your doctor about using both drugs together and see how low you can go with your carb count. I had a terrible time on regular Glucophage alone (my insulin resistance got worse and my facial hair and testosterone doubled) so for me the other formula of Glucophage was a great thing. Another issue is that Glucophage works on the liver and Avandia works on the muscles. These are the only two tissues in the body that store sugar as glycogen, and when you take both meds you are able to get your insulin and blood sugar levels back down in every way. I'll keep you in my thoughts! The dose I was on was 2 mg Avandia and 1000 mg GlucXR.
