Re: PCO and why don't doctors listenFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 3 Apr 2002 14:15:23 -0600 (CST)
Doctors do not listen because the research is so new. Many of them are unaware of the problems associated with PCOS (not PCO - many women have poly-cystic ovaries but not Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome. They are totally different things.) You do not have to have cysts in order to have PCOS. You do not even have to have ovaries! PCOS seems to be caused by a problem with our insulin. Migranes are not a part of this symdrome, but the rest of your symptoms can be. We have heard doctors tell us to lose weight since the dawn of time. It is difficult. Low carb diets have helped a number of women here. Weight Watchers is typically high carb which is a problem if you have insulin resistance (IR). Have you visited http://www.pcosupport.org ? It is one of the sponsers of this forum. It is an excellent website. You can take a quiz to see how likely it is that you have PCOS. They also have a list of a few doctors who are familiar with PCOS.
