On the contrary, this is not negative, but honest. I have been challenged enough. I have had PCOS for 25 years, I did not gain weight until about 13 years ago which I managed to do while I was on a low fat, 1200 calorie a day diet. I have seen nutritionists and I have done workouts 7 days a week (over 6 years) which included aerobics and weight training. I continued to gain weight. Unfortunately 13 years ago, doctors did not know about the insulin connection with PCOS. Women have been told for decades to lose weight and everything would be better. I have seen my mother and grandmother struggle with weight gain and PCOS symptoms even though they only ate natural foods (mostly home grown fruits and veggies) and got natural exercise (worked every day of their lives on a farm, far more vigorous than any other workout!) from sun-up to sun down. I would bet that my mother does not have 300 hairs on her head right now and she has spent tons on electrolysis. Since we have PCOS because of genetics, we cannot "get rid" of the problem. No diet or exercise will change our genes. Glucophage/metformin is a drug that is designed to help our body use insulin more effectively. Since insulin resistance is thought to be the cause of problem, we are attacking the root cause. Diet and exercise are very important components of treating PCOS but many of us who have suffered for a long time with PCOS have tried diet and exercise alone without much success. We do not lack in self control or will power but it is our genes that are faulty. I wish you luck and success with your choice.
