Re: PCOS - Low carb diet and Birth Control and trying to concieve!??!!?From: Valerie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Mar 2002 23:39:52 -0600 (CST)
Fight and fight hard! I have been there... the birth control pill is the LAZY doctor answer. It DOES NOT help- you..it masks your symptoms... but LAZY doctors think a mask is good enough to keep you at bay... read the forum entries... the one thing we PCOSufferers have in common acrossed the board is Insulin Resistance... get to an endocrinologist or a reproductive endocrinologist and MAKE THEM TREAT YOU... Metformin (a.k.a. Glucophage) is the most common treatment for us and THAT has been known to treat insulin resistence and therefore lets the rest of your chemicals settle and HOPEFULLY restores ovulation...if not Met/Gluc alone, then Met/Gluc WITH Clomid has a GREAT success rate... BUT BCP's have NO REAL POSITVE OR CURATIVE VALUE...and triphasic BCP's are very bad for us. Atkin's Diet IS one of the best for us because our insulin resistence prevents us from properly metabolizing carbs... rarely I have even heard of Atkin's getting a PCOSufferer healthy enough to get pregnant, but Met/Gluc is the way to be as healthy as you can be (after you adjust to it...remember, no matter how it is prescribed, cut your pills and start slowly because the side effects are horrid when you begin) Good Luck and FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS... I am doing the Glucophage/TTC thing myself, and I am a born fighter... if you need support fighting your HMO I would gladly support you.(And no matter what, keep us up to date)
