There are a couple of things that cause the skin to smell like ammonia. One is end-stage liver damage and the other (more likely) is that your body is breaking down proteins.

If your body cannot get fuel to use, it will break down its own muscle to use. The by-product will give you an ammonia like odor. It is interesting that Amanda noticed improvement when she went back on the met. We have difficulties using the carbs that we take in and that is what most "normal" people use for food. The met helps us use the carbs more efficiently, providing the body with fuel and preventing it from looking for food elsewhere.

This is frequently accompanied by dehydration, increase your water intake if possible.
