Re: Progesterone CreamFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 27 Mar 2002 08:28:19 -0600 (CST)
Self medicating with hormones is a very dangerous thing to do. I am aware that there are some doctors who allege that progesterone cream is great for women whom they call "estrogen dominant" but from what I've heard, they don't suggest hormonal blood tests prior to using the cream. Dr. Elizabeth Vliet, in her book "Women, Weight, and Hormones" strongly cautions against progestrone cream unless 1) it is necessary, 2) prescribed by a doctor, 3) after a blood test of hormones. She says that it will make PCOS worse, IR worse and if not needed can cause unwanted hair growth, amongst other problems. Dr. Vliets book is absolutely fabulous, as a woman I feel that she knows more about female hormones than any man could. Hope this helps. Anne
