Re: Thin Women and PCOS - Please helpFrom: Pat (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 25 Mar 2002 18:23:17 -0600 (CST)
In addition to the references mentioned elsewhere, here are some additional sites: You didn't mention the age of your sister. Is she young ? Under 20? There are some excellent articles about the dx of PCOS in young women, and why it is critical to do something about it. A fairly technical article, but one that is supportive of action is from the AACE: http://www.aace.com/clin/guidelines/hyperandrogenism2001.pdf It is a bit technical, but very thorough, and has some good recommendations for prompt action. Lots can be done for a younger woman: establishing normal menstrual cycles, losing weight, and avoiding diabetes and weight gain that doesn't help our self image at all. Here is a list of excellent articles.: http://www.ivf.com/links/pcoslinks.html Adolescents and PCOS: http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/peds/pidl/adolesc/polcysov.htm Pat S=onnenstuhl
