Re: Glucophage & Levoxyl & other meds- ADVICE NEEDEDFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 25 Mar 2002 10:57:45 -0600 (CST)
Valerie, I'm on thyroid meds and glucophage xr. I take my glucophage in the middle of a meal (breakfast and dinner) and I take my unithroid (similar to levoxyl) two hours after breakfast, one hour before lunch, or two hours after lunch and one hour before dinner - before breakfast might be better, but I don't have the time to wait. I am very sensitive to medications and the glucophage did bother me a lot at first, but I have had absolutely no trouble since I switched to a high fiber diet and a lot of the problems subsided after the first 2-3 months. I know that a lot of people have success with low carb atikin and atkin like diets but such a high protein/ low carb diet made me sick and my diabetic father has kidney disease too - he was a high protein eater, so I decided that atkin's wasn't for me. I tried balanced and zone diets but my glucose was going up even on medication, I feel great on high fiber and recommend it. Both my husband and I went off caffine and though the headaches were horrible, we feel so much better for the change! My husband has much more energy and he used to have three cups of coffee in morning before he felt awake. My gyno said it was okay to have a glass of wine on glucophage. I have red wine which is suppose to be low sugar and it's suppose to reduce blood sugar, before I switched to a high fiber diet I did find it made me feel a whole lot better - I would have just a small glass with dinner. Now I feel great almost all the time, though I'm having some PMS-hormonal problems. Anne
