I found out that my insurance lets me self-refer to doctors for certain issues, one of them is women's health. Since I obviously have plenty of women's health issues to discuss I went ahead and made an appointment. This new doc is listed on the top doc list for thyroid and she works at a well-reputed women's clinic here: http://www.womenshealthcare.org Her clinic has a lending library and they are very up on educating their patients and working with them, I would think they were up on the latest knowledge and if not were willing to learn if you brought them info. It looks good overall. I will be seeing her april 3rd in the morning, she has a doctorate in naturopathy and so I hope she'll be more pleasant to talk with and will work on getting all of my health rounded out and not just hyperfocusing on one issue (thinking for instance that carpal tunnel or plantar fasccitis symptoms have nothing to do with being hypothyroid, like many doctors think). I also have an appointment later the same day with a sleep specialist. I am hoping we'll find something that we can treat there as well so I can sleep better. now just waiting on the referral to the dietician If this new doc works out I will change her to be my PCP (primary care provider) with my insurance. My current doc is fine if you have the sniffles or a broken leg but is no good with chronic health problems.
