Re: tired / no energy at all

Hello....

I agree with this comment. Anyone who has a chronic fatigue during the day should at least consider the possibility of sleep apnea. If you snore, then it's a must that you have yourself checked.

I was diagnosed as having sleep apnea about 18 years ago. I was tired all the time, a debilitating fatigue. If I sat down for any length of time I would fall asleep. I was falling asleep at work, while driving, a lot of places. And it crept up on me so slowly that I didn't recognize it. I just accepted that it was the way I was.

I remember one morning, shortly before my first polysomnogram, when I was sitting on the side of the bed while I was waking up. Well, I fell back to sleep while sitting there, fell forward and crashed my nose into the dresser. It's a wonder I didn't break my nose. The day my boss found me sleeping at my desk was not a good one. Then there was the day I fell asleep at the wheel and rolled my car over in the ditch. I'm lucky to be alive, after that.

As I understand it, there are two kinds of sleep apnea....central and obstructive. Basically, when I lie down flat on my back, my throat closes off. This caused me to wake up every few minutes, or even every few seconds....not wake up totally, but just enough to pull me out of a deep sleep so that I have to go back to sleep again. Try spending the entire night doing that as many as 500 times a night. It's not a wonder that one would be exhausted during the day.

I was told over and over that my sleep apnea was due to my weight. I finally had my stomach stapled, as a last resort, not for cosmetic reasons but to literally save my life. I lost about 90 pounds, not nearly as much as I would have liked, but enough to enable me to stop using the breathing machine that had become a part of my nightly routine. I haven't been treated for my sleep apnea for about 3 years now.

Anyway, hope this information helps someone, Dusty
