*1. How long have you had PCOS, and how long did you have it before actually being diagnosed? I was diagnosed in 2000, when I was 32, but I have had symptoms of PCOS since I was born, if you count hypoglycaemia. The rest started when I was about 9 and progressively got worse. So that equals 23 years undiagnosed. *2. What kind of doctor finally diagnosed you? The first was my GP; but he rescinded it because I 'supposedly' ovulated. Then an OBGYN, who rescinded it when the cyst he removed was Endometrial. FINALLY an Endocrinologist said "Well, DUH! Of COURSE you've got it." *3. What are your symptoms? Oy vey... Skin tags, hair loss, hirsutism (face, neck, belly, thighs), IR, ovarian cysts (GIANORMOUS dysfunctional, string of pearls, and finally absolutely covering my last ovary), depression, central obesity (apple), rapid weight gain, Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, Menses started at age 9, irregular periods, excessive bleeding during periods, adult acne, sebaceous cysts, hypoglycaemia all my life, high cholesterol, menopausal symptoms (hot flashes, memory loss), extreme PMS symptoms (mood swings), exhaustion/fatigue, chronic vaginitis, anxiety/rapid heart beat, family history (miscarriages, endometriosis, Diabetes (I & II) in Mat. & Pat. blood lines, Male Pattern Balding in Mat. family), insomnia, rapid increase & decrease in sex drive (depends on which hormone is 'winning' at the time LOL), and probably infertility (though I've never tried to get pregnant). *4. Are you insulin resistant or insulin sensitive? Insulin Resistant *5. Do you have diabetes? If so what meds are you on? Pills or injections? Not yet!!!!! *6. Do you have high blood pressure? If so, does the medication your on control it? No, sometimes low blood pressure. *7. If your on glucophage or Met. for the treatment of PCOS, do you check your blood sugar daily? If you stop taking it, does your blood sugar go up? 1,500mg Met/day, but no, I don't check my blood glucose. I guess I should. *8. Have you ever been told by your dentist or hygienist that you have periodontal disease(problems with your gums)? Did they explain to you that diabetes has a direct link or effect on your oral health? No periodontal disease but receding gums. No, no explanation. *9. If you told your dentist or hygienist that you have PCOS, did they know what it was? I did tell them but they didn't know what it was. *10. Do you go for regular 6 month cleanings and check ups? Yes! *11. When you are at the dental office, does the hygienist or dentist check your blood pressure? Do they ask if your blood sugar is under control? Nope, never had that done.
