Doing a research paper on PCOS, I'm hoping you all can help meFrom: Joanne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 16 Mar 2002 10:59:02 -0600 (CST)
Hello Everyone, My name is Joanne, I'm 37 years old and I'm back in college going for a degree in Dental Hygiene. I'm doing a research paper on PCOS, and I'm hoping some of you could take the time to answer some questions for me. None of my Prof. even know anything about PCOS, so I thought this would be the perfect time to enlighten them and my fellow students. I am going to put this into relationship with dental treatment by way of the medications we all take. It is an issue as far as dental treatment goes, especially if you are on glucophage or Met. for your treatment and or are a true diabetic. So thank you in advance and here are my questions. 1. How long have you had PCOS, and how long did you have it before actually being diagnosed? 2. What kind of doctor finally diagnosed you? 3. What are your symtoms? 4. Are you insulin resistant or insulin sensative? 5. Do you have diabetes? If so what meds are you on? Pills or injections? 6. Do you have high blood pressure? If so, does the medication your on contol it? 7. If your on glucophage or Met. for the treatment of PCOS, do you check your blood sugar daily? If you stop taking it, does your blood sugar go up? 8. Have you ever been told by your dentist or hygienist that you have peridontal disease(problems with your gums)? Did they explain to you that diabetes has a direct link or effect on your oral health? 9. If you told your dentist or hygienist that you have PCOS, did they know what it was? 10. Do you go for regular 6 month cleanings and check ups? 11. When you are at the dental office, does the hygienist or dentist check your blood pressure? Do they ask if your blood sugar is under control? Thanks again, this is greatly appreciated, I'll let you know how it goes. We have to present our papers in April.
