Hi!

Yes, keep with it. It can take a while to notice a difference. And yes, doctors should be concerned first with your insulin and glucose levels first before other PCOS symptoms such as weight, etc. since Met or Glucophage is prescribed to help with insulin resistance. It works differently for everyone and you may have to play with the doses and take it for several months before noticing a difference. I'm sure you already know this but Metformin is not a magic pill and it will not cure your PCOS and make all of your symptoms go away but it will help get to the source of your problem and because of that it may help with symptoms. It's the best thing we have right now and it has done wonders for many PCOS women!

Also, Met is not a weight loss drug. Many women do not lose weight while taking it if not combined with a low carb diet and plenty of exercise. Some women have lost weight while taking it and have not made many dietary changes. But from the posts I've read they've only been able to lose about 20 pounds or so this way. Some women have to drop their carb level quite low before they start to lose. Some women can eat 50-100 carbs per day and lose but some of us need to drop to 20-30 in combination with Met or Glucophage and exercise in order to shed a pound. I read that you cut out almost all carbs. If you did I would think you'd be losing something -- you could be just really metabolically resistant. Maybe you need a jump start. Check out the Atkins New Diet Revolution and do the Induction for a few weeks. You should be in ketosis and losing weight when you're through. This book only costs about $5.

Don't get discouraged. I'd play with your dose, research low carbing a little further and keep taking the Met. It helped me right away but I know it can take longer for others. Hope it works out and stay encouraged! God bless! tera
