Re: Birth Control Pills

This is something that I have heard more times than I can count. Even in my own case, I remember overhearing my dear husband telling someone that he could not figure out how I could be gaining weight because he saw me work out over an hour each day with aerobics and weights and I only ate "rabbit food".

I can tell you the facts until you cry "uncle" but instead, I will recommend that you look up your particular pill. You may have the information at home. Look up the patient instructions. You will see for yourself that the pill has been known to decrease glucose metabolism, cause weight gain, hair loss (alopecia), hirsituism (unwanted hair growth), etc.

If you need any additional information, just ask. The pill was the only treatment available for PCOS for such a long time, some doctors are not aware of the problems that it causes us. Doctors who do research in the area of PCOS do not (to my knowledge) prescribe the pill as a treatment for PCOS. *You* may not be aware of the problems that it is causing in your body until after you go off of the pill.
