A Ship with many holes...numbness....weightgain.....hirsuitism....seizures...From: Jen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 11 Mar 2002 08:23:38 -0600 (CST)
Okay, I know I am probably restating all that has been said here dozens of times previously, but I have to revisit this issue of a syndrome. There are so many ailments that need to be treated causing PCO sufferers to become walking pharmacies and guinea pigs. I am willing to treat the symptoms for relief...but cannot shake the feeling like I am just plugging up holes in a ship one at a time. AYYY! Here is a list of symptoms I have that have not been directly linked to PCO but I suspect they are: Numbness and tingling in arms, body when sitting or sleeping at night. God forbid a fire should break out in my apartment at night. I would not be able to jump up to escape until my body took several minutes to wake itself up from the tingling and numbness. I wake up like a paralyzed zombie. Anxiety. Fluctuations in mood throughout the day, calmness and then sudden panic and rapid heart beat. Seizures: My sister has been diagnosed with epilepsy as her brain showed seizure like flutters. She says they feel like minor black outs. I have had minor, similar episodes. I figure they are linked to rapidly, severely fluctuating insulin levels and hormone changes on a given day. Depression. Sluggishness after meals. Two years ago, a male friend of mine was diagnosed with Pituitary Adenoma. As he described his symptoms, I felt like he was describing the male version of PCO where the symptoms were concerned. Is PCO a close cousin of various pituitary tumors and dysfunctions? Seems logical to me. I know there are ovarian follicles;cysts, but I think they are definitely produced by a genetic pituitary dysfunction. Bla bla,,,, I am just rambling/venting here out of frustration. Now, I am currently undergoing a new approach and awaiting an appt. with a new endocrinologist. What I or my two other PCO sisters have taken to treat the numerous symptoms is staggering. A seemingly dangerous mix or number of medications taxing the liver. Here is a partial listing: Sister One: Tegretol Birth Control Pill (infertility drug instead when conceiving) Glucophage Welbutrin/other anti depressant Sister Two: Birth Control Spiro Glucophage Welbutrin/other antidepressant Concerta Self: Glucophage Birth Control I am just venting about how I am tired of putting band aids on the cuts without treating the source.
