Mirena coil V blood tests for PCOSFrom: Sarah (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 7 Mar 2002 10:28:40 -0600 (CST)
HELP! My sister and mum were both diagnosed with PCOS, so I went to my doctor. She said that as I had a history of symptoms I should have the blood tests. However, all the tests came back as within normal limits. Neither myself or my doctor can understand why, but I think I have an idea. I was fitted with a Mirena IUS at the time the tests were carried out, and had not had a period for 6 weeks, so could not have the tests done on the 3rd day of my cycle. I was wondering if anyone knew if this would make much difference, and does the Mirena itself have any effect on the blood tests? Is it possible that because it can interfere with ovulation, it may make the results misleading? I have since had the Mirena removed and thought it might be worth having the tests again in a couple of months, so I'd be grateful for any advice. Many thanks, Sarah (UK)
