Re: financial helpFrom: tera (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 6 Mar 2002 23:45:03 -0600 (CST)
Hi! I understand your frustrations and I have experienced that same pain. It is very difficult for me to understand why I haven't been able to become pregnant and it seems at times like the whole world is pregnant -- it's hard! I just try to trust God's plan for my life and rely on Him for strength. I do agree with you, it is frustrating and it grieves me so. Anyway, about the insurance stuff. I have not heard of any place where there is financial help for infertility. I know that many offices understand the financial burden infertility can have on couples since most insurance plans either do not cover IF or only cover certain procedures or certain percentages of IF procedures. Therefore, many offices are flexible to work with you on payment plans, etc. But even then due to cost many offices expect their patients put down a hefty downpayment on procedures -- especially for the really costly ones like IVF. It sounds like the insurance plan you did have covered at least some IF procedures. That's cool. I don't know where you're from but I think only a few states in the U.S. require insurance companies to cover some IF procedures. In the other states it's up to the discretion of the insurance company or the company you work for. My husband is a postal employee and is supposed to have decent insurance but only one plan (we have many to choose from) covers ANY IF procedures. We obviously signed up for that plan and that plan does not cover IVF. It only covers artificial insemination and injectable and oral IF meds, office visits, tests, ultrasounds, etc. associated with artificial insem. but only 80%. Eighty percent sounds like a lot but it's not when it comes to the high cost of IF procedures. We had to pay 20% of everything which ran us about $400 per month out of pocket. We are not wealthy and we are pay check to pay check people for the most part so this was astronomical for us. We've even considered moving to a state that covers IVF and Jason (my husband) can transfer to a post office there! You do what you can, right? The drive to have a child is strong and I understand your drive. Sorry so long. I just wanted you to know that you're not alone in this. God bless! Tera
