Re: Any views on(aggghh)...Amaroli!From: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 04 Mar 2002 08:18:44 -0800
Actually, it's a veterinary product that has never been approved for use in humans. It says so right on the can. Many people do use it, and most of the ingredients are common in human products, but it contains a lot of lanolin, which many people are sensitive to. I use non-lanolin products for that reason. Bag balm is mostly vaseline, lanolin, camphor, and a few other things. There are much better treatments for skin wounds. One of the newer OTC products available are the Johnson & Johnson Advanced Healing bandaids. They are a hydrocolloid product. They are waterproof, promotes an optimum environment for the wound, and can stay on for several days at a time. Moist healing results in less scarring than letting wounds dry out, and it heals much faster. I also use a lot of the 3M Nexcare Clean Seals bandages, which are a transparent film with a non-stick absorbent pad island. They are also waterproof and may stay on for 2-3 days. Renee
