Hi Paula, I realized after I sent in my post that it might sound like I was giving up on my endocrinologist after one try. I had been seeing him for my thyroid problems and irregular periods. He tends to have a "hands off" attitude. He would evaluate me, hand me perscriptions and then say follow up with your primary care physician. When I met my husband I wanted to know if the bcp he put me on was strong enough to prevent pregnancy since when he started me on it he told me that it was not a strong medication but just enough to get my periods once a month. I wanted to make sure, we weren't ready at the time and still are not to have children. His response was call your pcp she should be able to tell you and I had to explain to him that it was she that told me to call him. So his response was "I guess so". So this time around I was surprised he wanted me to follow up with him in 6 months and get a blood test at 4 months. I plan to continue my metformin treatment with him for now but I have made an appointment with another doctor that specializes in treatment of PCOS for women who aren't looking to conceive and then when we decide to there are other doctors in his office that help women with PCOS conceive. My endo gave me a script for Meridia which I cannot afford to fill and when I told him this he said well, I'm not that upset that you aren't taking it, it really doesn't work that well. Then why perscribe it for me? I appreciate all of the links you sent me I'll be looking at them all soon. My husband calls me the research queen. Thanks for the info and support!
