Okay-Here I go again..question about Soy Products.....From: Barbra (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Feb 2002 20:51:23 -0600 (CST)
I am getting such good advice that I am on a roll here with questions. Since being on the high protein/low carb diet...I was told to add soy products into my daily meals. There has been alot of hoopla on the positive results of soy....but now I am reading the complete opposite. I had been implementing soy products daily now for almost six months via the advice of a friend who is a nutritionist at the hospital. My doctor agrees...what do I do?BTW -she is totally against me with my high protein diet......ugg to her..she does not know what we go thru trying to maintain a normal weight.Miss skinny minny that can eat a whole cake and not get fat.I also find that the meals at the hospital where she works are pretty high in carbs for some reason.Noticed it when my now deceased father in law was in the hospital where she works. Now,I have read that Soy is actually harmful for most, especially diabetics and it has shown to increase the risk of blood clotting and also depletes other vitamins and minerals from the body. It is powerful in removing the potent anti-oxidant values in other foods. Anyone else out there have any advice on that one. After all,it was used in times of famine. Here in Canada,it is so darned expensive and they cannot keep the stuff on the shelves. Claims were that it could protect against cancer, diabetes, prostate cancer in men,etc/it's no wonder I see the guys beat me to the dairy dept to grab that last quart of soy beverage. The one I use has a very small amount of carbs..is non fat.....but now I am tending to wonder.I have a half a cup a day. Any advice is appreciated as usual. Trying so hard to get the perfect diet here. I never dreamed that planning my meals would be so time consuming. If only my husband would eat the way I do...it sure would make things alot easier for me.I watch him snarffle down a piece of strawberry shortcake, followed by a soda and here's me with my chef salad and an apple for dessert....followed by water, water and more water!
-- Gentle hugs to all, Barbra Camara
