Hi Panacea,

Here is a quote from the Protein Power Diet: "several studies have shown that a glass of dry red wine to be an effective agent for increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin-the main goal of the protein diet."Since we are shooting for lower insulin levels,it not only doesn't hurt to add wine to our regimen;it actually helps. They are not saying alchoholic beverages as in hard liquors etc,or sweet wines...just dry red wine.

I am not a drinker by any means, but I must say that when we go out for dinner;I always have one glass of the driest red wine. For some unknown reason to me,it has a positive effect on my shakeyness. If I would have an alchoholic beverage of any other type,;I would experience the same problems as you do.This has always been this way for me,so that is the reason I have never been drunk in my life.

I have read the correlation for alchohol increasing risks of cancer, heart disease and the like in women. I have never read anything that would suggest alchohol being good for men. On the contrary, all I have been reading on even moderate alchohol consumption has been negative for both men and women alike. I read that a one ounce of dry red wine contains 1&1/2 grams of carbs.

They seem to put people in groups:non drinkers, wine drinkers, and hard liquor drinkers.Studies show that insulin is controlled in the wine drinkers.

I don't know..seems everything I read these days,;one seems to contradict the other. Guess our own body knows best. But I can sure relate to you with having an alcholic beverage....I had not in years and years.....if I have a drink.....god..I felt as if I would die.(I mean hard stuff).

Not a drinker anyways..but was just curious if this would help. I know my mother in law, being diabetic and portuguese (biggest wine drinkers)...so I would tend to debate the good results with implementing wine in my diet on a daily basis. They speak of people in france having the lowest rates of diabetes and heart disease in the book, yet these people eat the fattiest foods and drink alot of wine.I suppose is is our own genes that predispose us to diabetes.

I was just curious if anyone has been having a glass of red wine with their dinner. I think the reason it helps me,is that any alchohol is diuretic....and one glass makes me pee...so I rid myself of all the excess water.I would tend to think that all will react differently to alchoholic beverages. My hubby likes his beer....oh...the latest here in Canada all over the papers lately...forgot that...is that beer prevents heart disease.Sorry,I did read something positive on that!:) :) I hate beer!
