Re: Treatment for Ovarian CystsFrom: paula (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Feb 2002 15:41:35 -0600 (CST)
ovarian cysts can be caused for MANY reasons, PCOS being just one. if your wife has NO other symptoms of PCOS, it is likely that she has cysts for a different reason. if she does indeed have PCOS, a birth control pill should not be the only treatment. PCOS is not a disorder of the ovaries, it is a disorder of the entire endocrine system. while yasmin, alesse and other low-dose birth control pills can help a PCOS patient maintain her uterine health and assist with the reduction of ovarian cysts, other pills have been shown to have a negative effect in the patients, actually worsening the underlying causes of the disorder. i do not know what country you are moving to, but there are women on this board from all over the world and maybe one of them could help you find a doctor once you are in your new home. there are many tests that can confirm a diagnosis of PCOS, but please remember that PCOS is a syndrome and not all symtpoms need be present for a diagnosis. you can have PCOS without cysts on the ovaries, and you can have cysts on the ovaries without having PCOS. only a doctor can tell you for sure. hope this helps, and please contact me if i can be of any more help. love, paula
