Re: Help! I have had my period for 3 weeks.From: JC (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 27 Feb 2002 18:37:54 -0600 (CST)
Hi Angie, I am very sorry to hear about what you're going through. At one point, I did have my period for about 3 weeks, but that was due to breakthrough bleeding when I was put on OrthoTriCyclen. I'm not a doctor so I can't really reccomend anything to you medically speaking, but from your post I can definately reccomend to you that you get a new doctor. If you do not approve of the attitudes of your doctor - FIND A NEW ONE WHO WILL MAKE YOU COMFORTABLE. I cannot stress this enough, because it is so important to have a good rapport with a good doctor. I moved to a new area a couple years ago and the first (male) doctor I went to ... I told him about my medical history and that I had PCOS. Do you know what he said to me? He held his hand up and said "Sorry, I don't take care of that. You'll have to go to an OB/GYN." I was shocked and insulted that he wouldn't even LISTEN to me. The minute I left that office, I found an AMAZING new female doctor who works hard to keep abreast of PCOS, treatments, etc... and she LISTENS to me when I have concerns. I too had a difficult time trying to get an endocrinologist appointment. I told my primary doctor this and how it would take 3 months to get an appointment... and this is why I think a good relationship with your doctor is VERY important... she said that was completely unacceptable and CALLED the endocrinologist herself and got me an appointment the following week!! Doctors can DO THIS for you, so do not take NO for an answer! At any rate... again, feel better. I'm sorry about your cramping and bleeding issues. Take care!
