Re: QUESTIONS,QUESTIONS.......From: Sally (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 27 Feb 2002 17:19:36 -0600 (CST)
Hi Barbara, I have not been diagnosed with any autoimmune thing.... yet... except the thyroid. I was not bulimic or anorexic but have had 'abnormal' eating habits and am quite obsessed with food. When I was about 15 I was quite heavy. I started eating only one meal a day (did this for about a year) and lost about 15 kg.... I was complimeneted on the weight loss because I did not get skinny - just looked normal. After I started eating more normally I slowly gained weight until university when it went up sharply. I use skipping meals as a way of reducing weight and have for a long time - it was the only thing that worked! And also I found that I felt better (energy wise) when I didn't eat. Trying not to do that now - and not doing too badly with the help of the meds...(met, etc.)! Have had autoimmune symptoms - allergies (hayfever and skin reactions) and itching very often - daily. Get joint pains particuarly sacroiliac, hips, wrists, hands (since I was about 17), neck, though it is helped by exercise - and this pain used to be much worse with cycle - have arthritis on both sides of the family - Yay - I can't wait. I haven't had much joint pain for quite a while - but I think that is also 'cause I am not ovulating / hormones not working - had one 'normal' cycle a couple of months ago and the pain was back. Interesting Huh! Havne't seen any dr. about this since I was 18 (am now 31) when I saw a dr (rheumatologist) who told me it was all in my head - at which time I decised just to live with it and not be humiliated by any more drs. - and have since then. Hope your sister in law can get proper treatment for her condition. With you to help now, surely she could. How devastating for her. Best wishes
-- Sally
