I have been taking Glucophage successfully for 3 months. 2 weeks ago, I decided to try the generic brand Metformin as so many of you here talk about it and it would also save me money. Oh dear me, what a mistake I made (for me). 6 of my IR symptoms began to return almost right away. Constipation, water retention, hungrier with afternoon shaking spells, morning headaches, and my hair started falling out again. I marched right back to the pharmacy and asked for the switch back to Glucophage, which they gave me. Now I'm fine. Symptoms gone. I know that generic brands have different fillers, but is it possible there is a glitch in the chemical makeup of this generic medication? My Dad who has diabetes who is on Glucophage was thinking of switching to Metformin, and I told him not to. Has anyone else had this problem? Just curious.
