HI there Sonnet, You are correct that sebacious cysts seem to be the bigger cysts that usually require draining and or surgery for the very worst and bothersome. But,they can occur anywhere....on the face,neck,arms,..even the vagina. I had been to numerous dermatologists over the course of my adolesence and although,my so called "bumps" were always referred to as the sebacious cysts. I have a book here that refers to the sebacious glands making these cysts appear.Too long to type!!!lol.,..lazy today! I have also followed the advice of an experienced dermatologist about ten or so years ago.He said to use 3000 mgs of omega 3 fatty acids....fish oils, evening primrose oil(although the latter can affect the liver,so I would be ware). The doctor told me that most of us are defficient in this fatty acid. Belive me,with my terribly oily face, acne and these big whopper zits that looked like mountains and they hurt....(I was on tetracycline at the time, and was not helping at all)....I tried the evening primrose and it did rid me of the problems.Till this day,I still take salmon oil capsules....three times per day...1000 mgs....made by Jamieson.I think it has made a difference for me,as I don't have a pimple on my face or anywhere now,and my hair is shiney and silky. I told my younger neices and nephews that are going thru the acne stage now to try this and really,it has improved their acne. Actually,my nephew had cysts so large, that they required surgery, draining etc.Unfortunately,he has scars to prove! He takes the fish oil capsules daily...off the accutane and his acne has disappeared. Now,I don't have any evidence that it will work with our pcos-hormonal problems, but since this fatty acid is one that the eskimos use...they have low rates of heart disease and diabetes etc...one might tend to think about it's use. From the research I have done on it,it can only help matters. Really,I have just ridden myself of my horrendous acne the last few years or so.....my face looked like a pizza.....I can send before and after shots....I look like a totally different person. I had them on my scalp so bad too....that I could not stand to touch my head! Seems to be hormonal related...but non the less////these oils are an essential part of a diet...so why not give it a shot.Of course,as usual,,do a little research first....you may be quite happy with your results!!! Possibly the original poster meant that she had the big pimples...you know what I mean.Eventually, they do mature and pop!I have heard the term sebacious cyst used by my dermatologist even for a large zit......I have never been able to find any good links to this problem.

Sonnet, really try the lavender essential oil directly on your scalp....it is the only essential oil that can be used witout a carrier oil.Others are too strong to be used on the skin without using a carrier oil,as jojoba or vitamin e. When you get a zit....take a Q-tip and dab on the zit....really,when you have the slightest rash,,,,this works miracle.....also if anyone has the pimples in their ears,I did....you can put it there too.It really does work...I promise you!It is antiseptic,....oh and while on the subject....here I go again....tea tree oil is natural astrigent......great to treat a zit before it gets infected. It is mildly cleansing and has antibiotic qualities.....really,,,I think some should try these oils for acne.I thought of an oil to be the worst for acne,,,,but these are not the same oils as ones that we tend to use for cosmetic purposes...like the baby oils etc.Lavender just sinks in and leaves no greasey residue. It is cheap...a drop goes a long way....even add a drop to your shampoo daily!Trust me on this one. Gosh,if I could only help one person with their acne,,,,I would be sooooo happy,as I know how much of an impact in made on my self esteem.
