laser hair removalFrom: Tamera (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 25 Feb 2002 16:42:00 -0600 (CST)
RE: "shaving day-of" part: when i was having laser done, i was always told NOT to shave/pluck; hair had to be poking out in order for the laser light to find it & travel up it to the follicle. BUT - i had my lasering done at least 2 years ago & things may've changed. try calling laser clinics (just for info gathering, not necessarily for making an appt) & ask about the minimun amount of visible hair necessary. i'm sure they'd be glad to help you! as for pain, it felt sorta like a rubberband snap. it was MUCH better than electrolysis, since that goes hair by singular hair (ouchies!), & laser does about a 1" by 2" area of skin at a time. plus since there're laser light flashes, you get to wear cool sunglasses (always made feel kinda like bono from u2, during his *the fly* stage persona - ha). i found that pricing between laser & electrolysis mostly balanced out - the former being more expensive per session, but the latter needing more appts. many laser clinics give a cheap/lower price orientation appt which includes a laser test patch being done. some even put the cost of this primary appt towards the 1st actual laser session if you choose to make a "real* appt.
