Re: breastfeeding and glucophageFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 24 Feb 2002 21:57:55 -0600 (CST)
Paula, How soon do you need this information? I found something on this just a couple of days ago but my computer literally began to smoke and it is in the shop so I do not have the source for you. I *hope* to have my data back in about 2 weeks, but they have given me no guarantee about the data. :( I hope you can wait that long. If not maybe someone else can help. In the meantime, this drug has been used for over 40 years and the best I can recall, it is passed into the breast milk. I believe that the recommendation was that if the mother was severe enough that she had to be on Glucophage to keep her glucose levels down, she should consider insulin during the time she was nursing. Having said that, I would recommend that you do whatever you have to in order to nurse as long as you can. The benefits to the baby last a lifetime, especially the IQ increases and the allergy releif.
