HI Jen, My Dhea's are almost the same as yours. I had been on anti-depressants for two years.I am no expert, but certainly well informed enough to tell you that YES,certain anti-depressants CAN have an effect on hormonal levels for sure. There are many good sites to view on that subject and how they affect the hormones,As for the hair etc,,,,hairloss is a symptom of PCOs,but sometimes a side effect of an anti-depressant.Same goes with the menstrual irregularites. Best thing is to discuss your anti-depressant meds with a mental health practicioner rather than an endo or other specialist.also, mention to the mental health care practicioner that you have PCOS or the adrenal problems. It is very important for one that takes anti-depressants to be prescribed them from a pshyciatrist rather than an MD.They will be able to clarify these questions that you have. With any illness, some anti's can aggravate the problems.I do know for certain that some ssri's will raise adrenaline activity.Effexor is one of them.I will send a link to you on the anti-depressants and hope it answers questions that are difficult for most to answer,as all our bodies react differently. All I do know is I was told and I repeat,,just told that some of these meds could have aggravated my PCOS and especially my thyroid and adrenaline glands. I have heard of adrenal hyperplasia being brought on by certain meds.I will go and find the links sent by my doctor and post to ya! Another thing,is that anyone taking these anti-depressants,should not be on them for the lenght of time that you have been.I would talk to another specialist about that. >Hi!
