Adrenal SystemFrom: jen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 20 Feb 2002 22:50:11 -0600 (CST)
Hi! My doctor now thinks I probably have mild late onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia instead of PCOS. My DHEA level was 18.2 the last time it was checked, which is quite high I was told. Just a couple of weeks ago, my psychiatrist prescribed Dexedrine, a stimulant med, for ADHD symptoms. The drug has been quite helpful to me so far, but now I am wondering how this will affect my hormonal imbalance. I believe that stimulants cause stress to the adrenal system and am worried that if my facial and body hair, head hair loss, etc are also from adrenal problems, things might get worse. I don't know very much about it and would appreciate anyone else's experiences or info on it. Also, have any of you noticed an affect on your symptoms from taking antidepressant meds? I have been on quite a few over the last ten years. Could those drugs change our hormones enough to trigger the hair and menstrual problems we have? Thanks for any feedback you may have! Jen
