Potassium Levels, Spiro & passing outFrom: Addy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 19 Feb 2002 20:47:31 -0600 (CST)
I've been on medicine for PCOS since August. I am currently taking: Spirolactone Ortho Tricyclen Zoloft Trazadone (periodically) Sonata I recently got a sinus infection & added amoxycillen (sp) and Entex into the mix. Since I'm losing weight (and being successful) by following weight watchers.. I gave in to temptation and had a calzone & small pizza for lunch on Sunday.. around 1 PM or so. This was the only thing I'd had.. Friday night I had three peanut butter saltines for dinner around 10 PM & went to bed at 2. I got up at 8:20 AM on Monday.. got into the shower.. turned around to wet my hair.. was hit by dizziness.. held onto the wall for abt 10 secs.. and then passed out. I had no warning other than the dizziness. The damage wasn't especially bad.. I bruised my nose & really bruised the crap out of my knee. I'm not sure how long I was out.. the entire thing is kinda fuzzy.. I just remember the sound of things falling (that was me) from far far away.. I don't remember actually falling.. and I don't remember landing. I just came to very disoriented & in a full panic.. I held onto the side of the tub & hung my head over to get out of the water for.. not sure.. several minutes until I felt I could stand. My legs were shaking.. I had absolutely no color in my face. I ate peanut butter & crackers.. a few cookies.. grapefruit (my mom's diabetic so I knew what to aim for).. but I didn't stabilize until like 2 hours later. 2 AM that same day my sugar dropped AGAIN.. didn't pass out but I got the shakes. I will occasionally get the shakes but I've NEVER passed out in my life. I'm 21 & PCOS & everything else is new to me but this scared the crap out of me. I'm driving back home this weekend to see my GP.. but.. I was wondering how much influence potassium could have had? For the previous two weeks I had been eating a lot of foods that I didn't know were high in potatssium.. butterbeans (lima beans).. baked potatoes.. OJ.. yogurt.. etc. Have any of you come across problems with too much potassium in your system & had to drop spiro?
