Re: Visited with my endocrinologistFrom: Victoria (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 19 Feb 2002 20:56:42 -0500
Hi Jessica, The minocycline is an antibiotic. Not PCO related, or I've never heard of it before. Ortho Tri Cyclen and other tricyclic types of bcp are supposedly not good for women with PCOS. Its never been proven in a study, just a 'generality' that has been around lists for a long time. Several ladies on one of the other PCOS forums stated they had no problems with it, and were actually quite vocal about it. One of those things you may have to try and see if it works for you. I have heard that some bcp's can cause problems with blood pressure, etc. almost immediately. I'm trying to remember the circumstances, thinking that this may have been mentioned on the ob/gyn list, and with a 23 year old getting a stroke on another. Getting off that particulary bcp may be a good thing for you. Whether you want another one or you want to try one of the other options for treatment (Metformin, low carb diets, exercise, herbal treatments) is up to you. I've got bcp information on some of my webpages, both the PCOS and BCP pages if you are interested in that route. (http://nicho_v.tripod.com/)
