Re: pcos problemFrom: Angel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Feb 2002 22:21:27 -0600 (CST)
I am 15 and I have PCOS. Fortunately, my mom took me to the doctor as soon as it had been a year and my periods had not become regular, so mine was caught early. You do not mention what your symptoms are, but if you have PCOS, there can be a lot of symptoms. If I were trying to convince my mom that something was wrong, I would talk to her about the facts. If I whined or complained about it, I do not think that she would listen. But I would mention that it could only be of benefit to find out for sure, after all better safe than sorry, right? Usualy all that is required is a is a dortor's visit (preferably and endocrinologist or a gynocologist) and some blood work. A mom never wants anything to be wrong with their kid, so your mom may just want to ignore a problem. I would probably suggest that you and your mom visit http://www.pcosupport.org . There is a quiz there that you can take to see if it is likely that you have PCOS. If you take it and you mom sees the result, it may help change her mind. Also show your mom the risks that can come with PCOS. It can lead to losing your hair and gaining weight. It can also lead to not being able to have babies when you are older and diabetes. There are lots of other web sites that my mom could tell you about if you want more (her name is Belle).
