Re: Another HAIR questionFrom: Panacea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Feb 2002 10:52:23 -0600 (CST)
Well for one, there is this lovely cream called Vaniqa that you can get as an rx from your dr. You use it twice a day and it really does reduce hair growth, I noticed results within a week, although it says not to expect results for a month. I would get 5 o'clock shadow and have horrible ingrown hairs from the shaving and plucking, but now it's manageable!! Vaniqa is really approved only for facial use on the upper lip and around the chin area, and it's expensive to buy in quantity so for the rest of your body, there are various creams you can buy otc that may help. There is a new body lotion being advertised on television - I think by neutrogena? I may be wrong - that supposedly slows hair growth. It's worth a try for the legs etc. Also you should go in and have your testosterone/androgen levels checked. Your dr. may put you on some kind of medication that can help with the hair growth, which will mean other things like electrolysis etc can actually WORK - when your body is in whacko production like that the hairs grow back despite electrolysis in a lot of women. Although I don't have problems with hair growth on my chest, there is a little on my belly (not that I really care about it there, I don't show my belly to anyone but my hubby anyhow) and of course the face. I have always had long dark hair on my arms and legs and now since I don't wear skirts ever and shorts only at home I don't shave my legs.
