Rachel There is no magic pill that will help us lose weight. I would like for you to visit a couple of places to help you learn more about what is going on with your body. http://www.pcosupport.org and http://www.inciid.org/faq/pcos.html are good sources of information. You will find out about an insulin problem that we have. It is thought to be to cause of PCOS. If you are taking Glucophage, your insulin is being better utilized and that in itself may help you lose weight. With the insulin problem, many of us have found that a low carb diet has helped us when other things have failed. You can find many books on low carb diets or low sugar diets. The Zone, The Carbohydrate Lovers Diet, the Adkins Diet and Sugarbusters are a few. I have found that each of them have good points and good information. None of them are perfect. I do disagree with any that advocate the use of artifical sweeteners. Having been involved with research in this area, I know that (aspertaine) Nutrasweet created an insulin response and I have read that the same is true with saccrine or Sweet & Low. I have not heard this about Splenda. So far it looks good, taste like sugar (it is a sugar product) and you can cook with it. I am still looking into this but for right now, it seems like a viable alternative. If you want to try this, you can start by cutting out white bread (choose whole wheat), cut out white rice (try brown rice if you must have some), cut out Irish potatoes (try sweet potatoes without the brown sugar, cinnamon is good and helps with the glucose metabolism), cut out pasta - (sorry, you are on your own on this one!). Choose things with a lower carb value. Cauliflower instead of carrots, Apples instead of grapes are good choices. You can find books that list the carb values of foods in any bookstore. You do not need to make high fat choices. You need to try to find high fiber foods. You can eat boxed cereals if they have at least 5 g of fibre and less than 3 g of fat.
