A search on any search engine should provide a mind boggling amount ot information but for convenience, this might save your from a certain death from over-saturation. :-)

I can give you links to at least a dozen different reputable medical sites that can tell you that the most likely cause of PCOS is an abnormality in our insulin, be that insulin resistance, abnormally shaped insulin or a faulty gene near our insulin. Here are just a couple:

http://www.obgyn.net/displayarticle.asp?page=/pcos/articles/feinberg_pcosfaq (This link and others can be found at http://www.obgyn.net/pcos/pcos.asp ) http://www.infertilityphysician.com/androgen/pcos.html http://www.inciid.org/faq/pcos.html (I could not get on this tonight, but it should work)

These are links to help you decide if Glucophage may be helpful to you:

http://blues.fd1.uc.edu/~gartsips/polycyst.htm http://www.ivf.com/pcostreat.html

http://www.obgyn.net/displayarticle.asp?page=/pcos/futterweit_press release

Again, I can give you more if you want.

In a nut shell, insulin resistance is thought to be the cause of PCOS. Glucophage attacks what may be the source of our problems. Does the pill do that? The pill can actually cause decreased glucose metabolism.

If you are taking the pill because you have decided that you are not currently trying to conceive, then the BCP is a wonderful invention and Yasmin seems to be one of the ones that causes us to have the least problems. Of all the different types of BCP on the market, Yasmin is in the top 5 (or 3) for women with PCOS. As a treatment for PCOS, it is not as good.
