Velvety patches on the skinFrom: Heather (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 5 Feb 2002 08:02:14 -0600 (CST)
I was diagnosed with PCOS last summer and am managing the symptoms much like everyone on this msg board. I am wondering if anyone has experienced the reddish/brownish velvety patches on their skin. I have two separate areas where I have noticed this "rash". The first time I noticed it under my arm when I was shaving - it looked a little discolored and I didn't know what it was but as time progressed it became really soft to the touch almost shiny. Then a few weeks ago in the bend of my upper thigh I noticed the same thing. I thought I was chaffed and thought it was just dry skin but it has turned into the same as the patchy area under my arm. I have tried using hydrocortisone but it doesn't seem to work. I know this sounds really icky, but I am not grossly overweight and I can't figure out why it happens. I haven't made a special dr. appt to show my gyn - but I go back to the endocrinologist in a few weeks. I just thought maybe someone else has experienced this and could give some advice on treatment - or prevention. Thanks, Heather Forrester
