Re: metformin- does it help weight lossFrom: Nikki (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 Jan 2002 08:27:39 +0000
Hi, Firstly Metformin is not a weight loss drug, yes some people do experience weightloss but I think it is more a side effect than an actualality. most people get the gastric sideeffects which can last up to two weeks sometime even longer, I think that helps with weight loss, Metformin just helps your body use the insulin it produces more effectively. Remember if you are looking for a good weight loss way of life look more into cutting out some carbs. most general diets dont work with PCOERS due to the increase in Carbs, this is bad for us because the more carbs you have the more isulin your body produces (which we dont want) the result of this is the excess insulin gets stored as fat. so the less carbs you have the easier it is to loose weight, I follow the atkins diet, it is very low carb and is not suitable for everyone and does get boring. why not research Low carb diets and decide what is best for you. Hope this helps Nikki
