Hi Barbara,
I am kind of late in answering this question =)
I used to be very thin as a child and as a teenager (I weighed no more
than 110lbs in H.S.)..I was 135 lbs through most of my 20's about 7
years ago my weight shot up to 175 lbs (mostley do to pregnancy)...then
I gained about 5 lbs a year after that..at my heaviest I weighed 225
lbs...I am only 4'11" tall.Since being on Glucophage since last August.I
have lost close to 30 lbs now and weigh 195lbs (Dr has also told me I
have more muscle mass than fat because of the testosterone..I would make
a great body builder..lol). I am not low carbing but I do eat a lot of
protiene in my diet anyhow..I have cut out breads and pasta's they tend
to make me gassy because of the Glucophage..I have food aversions
because of the GI effects of the Glucophage..I feel this has attributed
to my weight loss.I have ALWAYS had irregular or non existant periods
since puberty but it seems that most of my PCOS symptoms snuck up on me
in just the past 7 years or so after a full term pregnancy(my baby girl
died shortly after birth...but thats another story).I am 36 years old I
will be 37 in November.I have only had the excess hair problems for the
past 4 years..I have done laser treatments(Yes it did work for me) and
now use Vaniqa.I think though the past few years my IR got worse and
worse and thats why I started to get more symptoms and I am hopeful that
the Glucophage will help reverse some of the damage that has been done
to my body from this syndrome.Good luck to you,Dona
