Re: Could it be PCOS?From: Tangelo (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 23 Jan 2002 13:43:02 -0600 (CST)
I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS too. I'm almost 25 and for several years I went to my doctor and gynocologist to inform them of my irregular periods. Time after time, I was ignored. They told me that it was natrual and that a change in my diet or exercise could be the cause and that alot of women tend to skip periods when they're younger. Finally at age 24 (still having irregular periods) I changed doctors and told her of my problems. She did some bloodwork and diagnosed me with PCOS. Although she had sense enough to check me for PCOS, she's not really responded to my "hormonal" needs as well as I would like. I was having extreme mood swings and gaining weight and she put me on Prozac. (not a smart move on her part) However, this week I'm going to go see a reproductive endocrinologist for my PCOS and hopefully he will know better how to treat my condition. My best advice to you is to go to a specialist and/or doctor until they give you a valid answer. Don't let them push a few meds on you without knowing what you have. I wish you the best of luck!
