Hi, As you probably know from former posts-I have alot of problems with my legs, but what you mention to me,sounds like intermittent claudication. Excercising will open up the collateral vessels. Alot of people experience a "charley horse" during the night. This can also be due to a vitamin or mineral defficiency. I wouldn't fret too much,if they happen at night. I was told that alot of people get them during the nighttime, and my research proves correct. My husband waked up during the middle of the night with a cramp in his calf -usually is after he has been doing alot of physical activity as well. There are many reasons for this, but if it tends to become more severe-get the problems addressed. Sometimes it can be nothing. I have heard that vitamin E defficiency can lead to charley horse type cramps during the night. As another person mentioned-it is also quite commom with Diabetes and other condtions and connective tissued disorders as I,myself have. Don't worry, you don't have lupus or any major problem-at least from what I have read. Here is a general rule of thumb to figure out if you have intermittant claudication. 1)When you walk,do you find that after a while, your calved become more sore and sometimes you just feel as if someone grabbed your calves and twisted them in a knot? 2)YOu have to just STOP after walking a short distance. If you have any of these-then IC is a possibility. Walking is the best. It will be difficult at first, but after a while, will become alot more easier. If you would like more info on that-please don't hesitate to call email me privately,as I have many books on that subject, since my grandmother suffered from it. I thought that I had the problem, but turned out to be something entirely different and my symptoms are different from what you describe. May I ask you to read Renee's posts in reference to my legs turning colors. She gives a great, detailed explaination of venous-arterial insufficiency. I had forgotten what the subject was-but just look thru some of her responses to my questions and you should find some very good information. Take care and-WALK,WALK,WALK-AS MY DOCTOR TOLD ME!
-- Sincerely, Barbra Camara
