I do not know what Sonnet has written because for some reason when I click on her post, I am viewing a totally different post. So I am going to answer it as if she didn't reply. If I repeat her answer, please forgive the redundancy.

Your question has been asked before. I recommend you do a search on this site for hysterectomy. You will find the experiences of other women who have gone through this procedure.

1) PCOS has NOTHING to do with the ovaries. I cannot say that strongly enough. PCOS has NOTHING to do with the ovaries. The cysts on the ovaries are a symptom of the disorder not the cause. The cause is thought to be insulin resistance. You do not have to have cysts in order to have PCOS. You do not have to have PCOS if you have cysts. PCOS has NOTHING to do with the ovaries. (Who do we talk to in order to get posted in huge, red, flashing letters at the top of each message???) The name was determined before it was discovered that you do not have to have cysts in order to have PCOS.

2) Since it is not the ovaries that cause our problems, a hysterectomy will not improve our condition. There is no cure for PCOS. If you have a hysterectomy, you will continue to have PCOS. You may experience increased hair loss, facial hair, etc. everything except menstural disorders. Many women report that they feel better immediately after the hysterectomy but later come back to tell us how their symptoms increased. I do not know of anyone who is post-hysterectomy for more than a year who does not have worse PCOS symptoms than before. They also continue to be at risk for diabetes and heart disease.

We can control PCOS by controlling our diet, taking meds to control our insulin levels, and keeping up on research so we know if our doctors are treating us appropriately.

I hope that when you search these posts you are able to get the information that you are looking for to help you make the correct and informed decision.

If you have a uterine cancer, you should probably have a hysterectomy, otherwise it is probably not the best option for most women.
