Ovarian cysts are surprisingly common, about 25% of women get them at some point. Sometimes they go away on their own, sometimes they change with a change in your hormones like a pregnancy or being on the pill. Usually they don't cause any problems.

If you have PCOS, it is something that should be treated as it can lead to diabetes, as well as increasing your risk for other health problems. You can find more information at http://www.pcosupport.org.
