Hi JoBeth!

It sounds like you're on your way to finding some answers by looking at your list of tests. First, find out if you have PCOS. Get the results of your tests. I agree that your tests should make your "plan of attack" more clear for you and your doctor. Make sure your doctor rules out other conditions that can masquerade as PCOS.

There are many symptoms of PCOS. PCOS is a syndrome which means essentially that it is a compilation of related symptoms. Women with PCOS do not need to have all of the symptoms to have PCOS. Some symptoms can be: weight gain, acne, head hair loss, insulin resistance, excess facial and body hair, irregular periods and anovulation, infertility, excess male hormones, polycystic ovaries, etc. Keep in mind that you do not need to have all of the symptoms.

Your doctor may not be very educated about PCOS (many doctors aren't), or has not put all of your symptoms together yet, or just thinks for whatever reason that you do not have PCOS and so has not mentioned it to you.

If you find out that you have PCOS you may very well be insulin resistant. The common med at this time is Glucophage or Metformin which helps to control your insulin resistance and your PCOS at the source. Women with PCOS with excess androgens often try Spironolactone or Aldactone to help with the problems that they can cause. A low carb diet helps PCOS. These are some of the "typical" treatments at this time. Hope you find some answers soon! God bless! Tera
