Rebbekah don't feel dumb at all! That's what these boards are for, a palce for support. I hope you can find it here!

Your current doctor sounds like an idiot, forgive me! He apparently doesn't know the first thing about PCOS and, I would guess from what he said, has some SERIOUS weight issues to deal with. You're right to be concerned. PCOS can be a very serious condition. If it's not managed well, it can lead to more severe consequences. In the meantime it totally destroys your quality of life. Not only that but consider, only 50% of women with PCOS have weight gain as a symptom - so how is that an excuse for being heavy? grrrr, that makes me so mad when doctors don't know anything.

Anyway, yes, time to find a new doctor! There are bad ones and good ones out there. Keep going to them until you find one who is knowledgeable and compassionate. If you look at the PCOS Associaiton site, they have a few lists that might come in helpful. The first is "Professional Members" (Under the "Medical" link on the left.) These doctors aren't garaunteed to be good, but they ARE professional members of the Associaiton, so they've put some money into PCOS as a cause. Also, check the link for "PCOSupport Chapters" under Support. Find the group in your area and contact them - the chapters often keep a running list of doctors in the area that members have found helpful.

And don't let this one guy who doesn't know anything get you down! This is your health, and you've got EVERY right to be taken seriously! There are things we can do to get better, and ways of treating this. Just let all of us here know how we can help.

Take care!
