Re: For Belle - PCOS testsFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 16 Jan 2002 11:22:45 -0600 (CST)
Thanks for letting me know. I checked the board several times yesterday to see if you had written. For some reason, your post really concered me but I cannot lay my finger on why. Please do not be upset by that statement, it could be any number of things, not necessarily something bad. I just got an uneasy feeling when I was answering your post. I mentioned Cushing's because it is so similar to PCOS in that it has weight gain, menstrual irregularities, glucose problems, and excess hair growth as symptoms. The statement about your collar bone brought it to mind. I would definiately try to get the IGTT. Especially if the LH & FSH do not indicate that you have PCOS. While Glucophage/metformin is the "standard" treatment, I understand that in the UK, it may not be the first line of treatment and you may have to fight for it. With the results of the IGTT, you would have ammunition. Assuming that you do not have Asthma or some other breathing difficulty that would be causing you to unknowingly expand your ribcage in order to get adequate amounts of oxygen, I cannot think what would have caused your ribcage to grow. This may be what it throwing me. I am going to try to do some research to figure this one out.
