Losing weight and getting period?From: Heather (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 15 Jan 2002 20:43:19 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I've had PCOS since my early teens. My periods were very infrequent and nonexistent for a while. I got PG using Pergonal. I had maybe 1 period 28 days after I stopped nursing. Then another one about 8 months later. My question is this: every time I lost weight - even 10 pounds or less - I end up with a very light period. It lasts maybe a day or so, and there isn't very much. What strikes me as weird was that at 193 lbs I wasn't having periods, but I went up to 203, lost 10 and now at 193 again I had a "period". So is it the loss of weight that is causing this, or something else? It can't be the amount of fat cells producing estrogen, since I assume I had the same fat cells when I was 193 before! I wasn't having periods at 183 either, but maybe I will when I get back down to that weight? Anyone else with experience like this, please let me know!
