Re: By-pass surgery??From: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 15 Jan 2002 00:40:10 -0600 (CST)
I see you've got a million responses already but heck, that's never stopped me from chiming in anyway before, why start now! Of course you've got to do what feels right to you, personally. If that's bypass surgery, and you really want to give it a go, then it is worth considering. But my personal take on it is this: We have PCOS - we have a *metabolic* disorder. As one physician told me years ago, I could have eaten nothing but celery my entire life and still weighed 300+ pounds. Bypass surgery corrects weight gain in people who are overeating. So I would think that it wouldn't work so well for us! Adding to this, it (obviously) reduces the amount of food we can take in. What with insulin levels and so on being a precarious balance as is, I'm not willing to throw it off even more by throwing of my metabolism that way. Does taht make sense? All the same, man I am SO TIRED of being this fat!! If we had money, can I even tell you how fast I would be asking a surgeon or anyone to DO SOMETHING about it? (Hrrrm, maybe lots of liposuction!) I am not into really hating my body any more, but sheesh! The disabling obesity thing got old pretty quick :P I wish I believed in bypss surgery to help me, I'd try it risks and all if I thought it would help! *hugs* to you, girl!
